A Salute to America

We took Emily to see the tribute to 9-11 which consisted of thousands of American flags lined up at the park by Murfee Elementary. She enjoyed running through the flags and trying to make them wave in the wind. I know she is too young to understand the significance of this trip, but maybe someday, when she's older, she will appreciate it. Thank you to all (especially Uncle Jeffrey) who fight to keep us a free nation. God bless America!

Chicken Pox

Since we have been quarantined to the house this entire week due to Emily's chicken pox, we have enjoyed the great outdoors. She had fun running through the sprinkler and riding her tricycle. Thank goodness her chicken pox case was mild. She was in good spirits and didn't even run a fever. We just got a little cabin fever now and then. I enjoyed staying home with her even under the circumstances. I'm thankful to say that she is free and clear to return to school on Tuesday!

Mountain Mama

We enjoyed our little "mountain get-away" to Ruidoso, New Mexico. John Paul, Malissa and Raellen joined us as well. The girls had fun collecting acorns, pinecones and rocks. We also had a herd of very friendly deer that visited our cabin each day to have a bite to eat. Then it was off to the races....or close enough. Emily and Raellen rode ponies and learned to skip rocks in the Ruidoso river. At the end of each day, the girls (and the adults) were pooped. Now it's back to reality and 90 degree weather.

Ready, Set....Swim!

Emily has become a regular fish in the water this summer. She took swimming lessons at the new Texas Tech leisure pool. She has learned to blow bubbles, kick her feet and move her arms to swim. Her favorite part was jumping off the side of the pool. Isn't summer great?!

Princess and the Pea

It's princess time at the Roark house. Emily loves dressing up and this day it was a combination of Snow White and Tinker Bell. I still hold the title of Queen Bee, but I definitely have a little princess who is giving me a run for my money!

Can you say...."attitude"?

That's better!

Bathing Beauty

We have been taking advantage of the hot weather by "sunbathing" by the pool. I use the term "pool" very loosely since it is the $8 plastic pool from Walmart. It serves the purpose though. Emily is becoming a regular little swimming fish. Most of the time is spent splashing me and taking the water from inside the pool and relocating it to the outside of the pool. I do have to say that she is just like her mother.....she loves to soak up the rays.

Red, White and Blue

We had a great time at the Fourth on Broadway parade. Emily's favorite was the tractor float and the frozen lemonade. She also had fun riding the "train". That evening we had hot dogs and listened to the concert in the park. Emily got her first sip of Sprite and thought she was hot stuff. Thanks to Daddy and Uncle Jeffrey for the delicious hot dogs. Happy Fourth of July!

I Love a Parade

Emily's school had a fourth of July parade today. All of the kids from newborn to preschool pranced around the fellowship hall in their American gear. Emily enjoyed waving her flag and showing off. But of course, her favorite part was the picnic lunch and ice cream. Can you blame her?
